Kori Leppart Of Turtle Child Studio

Doll artist Kori Leppart of Turtle Child StudioExquisite Handmade Porcelain BJDs
And One-Of-A-Kind Artist Dolls

Doll Artist and ODACA member, Kori Leppart of Turtle Child Studio, has been making one-of-a-kind (OOAK) art dolls and small limited editions since 1997. Her entirely life she has been drawn to figurative and illustrative art and as a child she spent much time drawing mostly people and animals. In high school Kori studied art learning to draw people by imitating the works of Brian Froud and others. Later she went on to continue her studies in college. Back then her mediums were fairly limited to water-color, oils and acrylics... always two dimensional. In 1997 she was forever changed when she discovered the book FANTASTIC FIGURES by Susanna Oroyan. Her two dimensional world turned into a three dimensional one as she discovered a new medium: Polymer Clay. Thus her dollmaking career ignited!

As a completely self-taught dollmaker Kori's work features primarily young teens, has a dark gothic edge and explores themes from fairy tales and folklore. She finds much inspiration in the Pop-Surrealism movement and has always loved the world of fantasy. For over two decades Kori has been enthralled with Polymer clay as it allows her to use all of her skills as an artist. In the last few years her work has shifted from sculpting OOAK art dolls in polymer clay to ball-jointed dolls (BJDS.) Although she still sculpt her original dolls out of polymer clay, she now casts her sculpts in mostly porcelain and sometimes resin. Kori's porcelain BJDs are fully articulated and exquisitely hand-painted in a multimedia style. Each OOAKs and small, limited edition is entirely handmade solely by Kori from start to finish. Each doll is costumed and hand finished, making them truly a work of art. Each signed doll comes with a certificate of authenticity so that you will know that they are original works.

Kori Leppart is a member of ODACA (Original Doll Artists Council of America) and PDMAG (Professional Doll Makers Art Guild). Over the years, she has taught numerous classes on classical sculpting and OOAK dolls. Currently she teaches an array of Online Doll and Mixed Media Classes on aforartistic.com. Kori's work has been featured in countless galleries and boutiques around the world in addition to several magazines including: DOLLS, Haute Doll, Art Doll Quarterly, Doll Crafter And Costuming, Contemporary Doll Collector and Doll House World. After taking a break to raise her family, Kori returned to the world of Dollmaking. The following year, she was the recipient of the 2009 Prosculpt Award as well as named Best New Dollmaker in from CDHM.

Kori Leppart works from the comfort of her log cabin studio where she lives in the beautiful wilderness of Montana with her husband and two beautiful children. Her children were unexpected blessings as she had her children late in life. Kori's son, Matthieu, has Asperger's Syndrome and is a highly gifted little boy. He inspired her to name her studio, Turtle Child.

I named my studio Turtle Child after my son because he took a very long time coming into this world and also it is the symbol for Autism Awareness, a child shaped puzzle piece which kind of looks like a turtle! Turtles also represent protection of the young in Native American culture, which is something I see so much in my daily life living in Montana. You will see the Turtle Child symbol stamped into the back of every one of my dolls. I hope you enjoy my creations, as much as I enjoyed creating them for you! -Kori Leppart
