Edward is a beautiful 18 inch replica of the Teddy bear who famously inspired AA Milne's Winnie-the-Pooh stories. Originally created by Farnell in 1921, Daphne Milne purchased Edward Teddy from Harrods as a birthday gift for her son, Christopher Robin. Christopher formed a unique bond with his beloved Teddy and the two became the best of friends. Following a trip to the London Zoo, the young boy later renamed his bear after a beloved resident of the zoo, a black bear named Winnipeg, nicknamed 'Winnie' for short, and a swan named Pooh. Christopher's father, AA Milne, was enamored by the wonderful friendship he witnessed between a boy and his Teddy bear and was inspired to pen stories about their journey through life together. Thus began the tales of Winnie-the-Pooh.

Handcrafted in England using the same traditional skills and materials as Christopher Robin's original Edward bear, this handsome chap features a rich, antique-golden mohair coat and pure woolen felt paws of sandy-beige. His deep amber eyes show a longing to be loved, which together with a hand-embroidered nose and his endearing smile (cotton thread), produce a quintessential charm that can only be found in a Teddy bear of such timeless design. True to the original, Edward also 'growls' when tipped. He is 18 inches, five-way jointed and weighted with beans... perfect for hugging and holding.

Created by Merrythought as a Special Edition, each Edward bear is individually numbered and presented in a unique 'Farnell by Merrythought' cloth gift bag. Edward is the perfect companion. Begin your own adventures with Edward today. Suitable for ages 3 and up. Please remove all accessories and tags before giving to a child under the age of 3.

A History Of Fine, Handmade Teddy Bears In England Since 1930

Merrythought“Merrythought has been hand-making the quintessential English teddy bear in the World Heritage Site of Ironbridge, Shropshire, since 1930 and is now the last remaining British teddy bear manufacturer. The company is a fourth generation family business founded by Mr W.G Holmes in 1930 as a diversification from his mohair mill in Yorkshire. Over the years a huge range of teddy bears, soft toys, dolls, push-along toys, rocking horses and other animals have been created in the famous factory.”
